fuseboard outside?

Hello all,


I was working at a campsite recently where they have a large wooden accomadation block that is split into separate little rooms that is rented out to lucky holiday goers. The problem they have is that the fuseboard that controls all the separate dorms is in one of the rooms so whenever something trips they have to go into this one room and disturb the tenants. They asked me if it is possible to relocate the fuseboard externally so they could get access at all times. They suggested using an old dno meter box that they had lying on site. I said that this was not suitable and they would have to provide some kind of enclosure.
I am after some advice as I am a bit concerned about protection from the elements. Would it be possible to place a fuseboard in an external cupboard/mini shed. Or is there a suitable ip rated enclosure that would take a fuseboard. It is only a single phase 10 way board that is supplied via a sub main from the cutout.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Alot of houses in the UK have fuseboards mounted in the DNO's meter cupboard, outside on the wall. All I have seen are in good nick, and appear not to have suffered in any way as a result.

Think about it, ...If these external boxes are good for the DNO's service cut-out and meter, they should be more than adequate for a CU!! Most of these enclosures are IP 54 or thereabouts. So as long as this enclosure doesn't have open cable holes at the top and sides, or that any unused cable entries are suitably sealed, including the bottom (against vermin etc) i can't see a problem!!!

Not ideal, especially when it's hissing down and you're re-setting an MCB with wet hands!! ...lol!!!

Cant see a problem with it. Done it myself a few times for temp supplies, holiday parks etc. Would recommend a padlock on the enclosure to keep the little scamps out.

Thank you for your replys, I just wanted some clarification. Cable entry would be through the back so there would be no cable entry glands that where open .

YOU CAN GET IP 65 ENCLOSURES possibly c.u.s as well not a problem just make sure you seal the back ect and drain holes in bottom and as mentioned LOCK as wee people will turn the lights out to scare pals ect ect
