Fusebox change help

Hello there,

I am Simon and I am looking for some help from some of you experts with some electrical work that I'm getting stuck with. I always do alot of DIY and am more than happy changing my switches or putting extra sockets in. I did my own kitchen last year but I recently decided to change my fusebox because it was really starting to smell badly and it was probably unsafe. I realise that this is a bit more advanced than just adding a socket so I got one of the more modern looking ones from homebase with the switches instead and I have replaced my old one with this. The problem is that when I connect the green and yellow wire into the bar at the top like on my old fusebox nothing works and I cant get two of the switches to stay on?? I have left it off for now but I know it is important as it connects everything to ground so I dont want to start a fire or anything. what I need to know is how do i get this connected without it affecting the switches?

This has been bugging me for days and nothing on google seems to point me in the right direction. I should also say for clarity that everything has been connected exactly as shown on the instructions that came with the new fusebox.

The installation needs dead testing first to make sure the wiring is ok for continued use, and to identify any shorts, shared neutrals etc......have you got two lighting circuits? If you have and there on separate rcds try moving both lives and neutrals to one side into ONE breaker and then put all your earths back into earth bar and try switching on.
it goes without saying but I will say, you should have got a qualified sparky in and should get one in now tbh to fully test the installation, you could have potentially made your house more of a fire risk by doing this work yourself, but hey ho.

i couldn't help it, probably a wind up but there are some people that actually attempt this sort of thing without any idea in what they are doing.

Wow, a rather hostile bunch today! Thank you jdsparky, I have four circuits, light, power, shower and cooker. I didn't think you had to test your own work? It has worked fine for years apart from the bad smell. That smell is gone now but like I said I cant get it all to work proprly with ground connected. I did phone an electrician and he wanted £250 to replace the box!!

I am realising that I might be a little out of my depth here but I can pick up pretty much anything fast. How much do you think it would cost to get an electrician out to look at my work and work out what the problem is considering I have now replaced the box myself? Obviously I dont want things to be dangerous but I didnt want to get ripped off for hundreds of pounds to just replace a box and screw some cables down.

You're messing about with something you obviously know nothing about, do yourself a favour and consult a local electrician. You may think that £250 is excessive but when compared to the price of a funeral it's a bargain.
