I'm just about to do a PIR in a shop that hasn't been tested for many years.
One thing I noticed on a walk round was an electric water heater in the toilet for hot water to the basin. No problem with that, but the switch spur was mounted right next to the sink.
Since it's not a bathroom, there are no zones involved. I don't like it and common sense says the SF is in the wrong place, but can't find a regulation to say it's wrong. Any ideas? Thanks

As long as its 300 mm or more from the sink its ok , if you work on the Guide for kitchens sockets , i have seen these hand wash installed with unswitched fused spurs this is incorrect as you have to provide a means of isolation ,by that its a double pole switch ,not just switched off at the CDU

HAd a quick look at one today with a washing machine plumbed into the bathroom. Single switched socket is about 2 feet from the sink, just got to measure now from the shower cubicle to see if its outside the zones......:p

Must be a big old bathroom to be able to fit a washing machine in never mind the 3M from the edge of zone 1 for the socket.

I rang the NIC technical helpline about this and explained that I have always done, as best practice, left a 300mm gap between the edge of the basin and the switched FCU, Shaver socket etc and the chap on the phone said along as it has suitable means of protection ie RCD protection of the circuit then it's fine to go wherever. Hmmm

Not particularly linked to this OP but a kitchen is only a Kitchen if it has a sink AND food preparation facilties,if a room has a sink in it, it isn't neccesarilly notifiable

washing machine in a bathroom? madness, i was a service engineer when we came across this we werent allowed to touch them why? you cant prevent steam ingress into the appliance and besides sockets:eek: dont go inb bathrooms!
