Just a quick one, hopefully.

On the SMA website, there are G59 and G83 certificates for the 3000tl, 4000tl and 5000tl (I've not checked any others). Does tha mean that when I order an inverter, if I want one with G59 settings I must specify this.

I am installing a 10KW system which will be on 2 x 5000tl inverters. None of my suppliers price lists or product lists have 5000tl listed with different settings. The choice is just "5000tl".

Hope this makes sense and that you can help.

Cheers

What has the DNO advised / required, as for that size you must have submitted a G83 Stage2 application ?

If you're only using 2 x 5000 TL's are you on single phase?

I would be very suprised if 2 x 5000Tl's were allowed on 2 out of 3 phases as that definitely contravenes G83 (out of balance).

My customer is having a new electric supply run in to the property and is paying for a transformer upgrade. It is single phase and we have had the DNO involved right from the start so they are happy with what we are doing.

I just wanted to know if you can specify G83 or G59 settings when you order an inverter as it seems to me that when you order an inverter there isn't a choice?

Cheers

As a generalisation, the SMA inverters sold in UK will come so that they default to G83 (but not always if a shipment is re-directed!). However, by setting the dials correctly you can set any particular country standard - look in the installation manual. You will need a gridguard code after the inverter has locked down after the first 10 hours of operation, but they ought to be settable with the default installer's code up until then. There ought to be simply a G59 setting on the inverters, but I have not seen one yet so it might be necessary to set up each parameter by hand using your laptop during commissioning. A phone call to SMA will clarify.

Thanks Bruce, that makes sense.

I spoke to our DNO today who confirmed 2 x G83 inverters is fine on the installation as it is single phase, it's OK up to 11KW. They did mention that the over voltage protection may need to be changed on the inverter which fits in with what you are saying. I'll speak to SMA if needs be to make sure.

Many Thanks
