Dear all,

we are planning to install wind turbine inverter connected in UK. Our company is form Italy and is the first experience in UK. We recognize that G83/1 or G59 test are still applicable untill 2014.

Our inverter is already compliant with power quality requirement and we plan to install an external interface protection. We found on the market some device like the Megacon, that provide loss of main functionality.

The loss of main funcionality are inserted in the chapters related to protection interface, but test and appendix 4 (G83/2) refers to certain amount of nominal power.

Can be istalled an external device with such functionality or is necessary do additional test with inverter and potection relay toghether?

Thank you for any help.

Best regards
Andrea

Hi and welcome Andrea,

what size kW capacity is the turbine? Which make and model of inverter do you plan to use? When you say "our inverter" is this one you manufacture yourself?

Most European inverters, such as SMA, are already G83 certified.

The inverter is a 10kW, so less than 16A rules are applicable.

We implemented a non certified industrial inverter in a cabinet with several functionality. That cabinet is tested for CEI 0-21 rules, CE labeled and EMC compliant. That is what we call "our inverter".

@TNWT, if it is not a 'type approved' inverter then you will need a proper G83 cut out relay AND it will need to be witness tested - You could buy and install a Type approved inverter from SMA cheaper than you can buy, install and have witness tested your add on solution....

If it's three phase you'll be OK with G83, if single phase then G59 AND prior approval from the DNO to connect.

Thank you for the help. The application is three phase.
