Hi,

Just had a customer ring me up about their light fitting which has blown all the bulbs at once and one had even blown the glass shade apart. Nipped round as its only round the corner, it has six G9 bulbs in it, the light shades are thin tubes very close to the bulb. The customer also said she got a shock at the switch from it, could not see anything wrong with the fitting, its earthed correctly. The MCB did trip.
Therefore is this normal with G9 bulbs or has anyone seen this before.

Cheers

Many cheap imported lamps do not meet IEC 60432-2 safety standards and can explode at end of life. An exploding lamp could cause serious injury and damage so check the lamps for manufacturers details.

just found this link that says G9 should not be touched - HERE - was the customer handling them?

Interestingly i had to replace one at my dad's house the other day and it did not say avoid direct handling on the packet. I didn't touch it anyway as at over ÂŁ5 a pair  i wasn't going to risk it.

If he got a shock id also question the installation or earthing of the switch before worrying about the fitting as safety first, another thought is - is this fitting rated voltage wise correctly because every lamp shouldn,t explode like that even if cheap and nasty it sounds like something else is a-miss
