are these worth getting? i'm looking for a basic ceiling light, nothing fancy, but needs to be low energy and come with decent bulbs that last.

have just fitted a 16W 2D CFL light (on my landing) and it gives off an awful white clinical light, and it flickers like mad on startup. so i'm going to be removing that and sending it back asap, but now I need a replacement

Hi Ex Army, No need to ditch the fitting. Change the Daylight (Cool) White 2D fluorescent for either Neutral White or Warm White 2D Fluorescent to suit your preference. If it's an old LF type, either, swap the standard glow-starter for an electronic starter which will virtually eliminate the start-up flicker, or swap the gear tray or fitting for a modern HF type.

There have been issues with cheap G9 lamps failing prematurely.
Also, remember NOT to touch the glass with you hands as it will turn the glass milky and opaque, therefore wear cotton gloves or use a piece of lint free cloth when installing the lamps.

problem sorted, with a bit of jiggery pokery I have swapped the inner workings of the new light fitting with a standard edison screw bulb holder I got from the old ceiling light and fitted a 15W low energy bulb into it. now the light looks better and is efficient. (previous light fiting was from the 70's and looked horrendous and it wasn't big enough to take a low energy CFL)
