Hi there
I've got a job at the moment to sort out the electrics in a garage. The issue according to the owner was that 2 of the 3 double sockets in the garage aren't working.

I went yesterday and the issue isn't exactly as the owner described. There is one double socket on the back wall of the garage which is working, and then there are 4 double sockets (2 down either side walls) which aren't working.

Then there are 2 double sockets in the ceiling of the garage (the roof space has been boarded with a loft hatch). On futher investigation, there are another 3 double sockets in the loft space above the garage!

The garage is full so I couldn't get access to all the sockets, let alone get into the loft space.

The garage is on its own CU with an RCD and 16A CB.

From initial fault finding there is a neutral fault on the wall sockets as I'm only getting 190V between L & N.

The sockets in the ceiling seem to be completely dead, even though they appear to be connected.

I've advised the owner that before I can continue, I need to be able to have clear access to all sockets. They are going to give me a call back when they have tided up.
I also noticed that 2 of the 4 wall sockets were damaged, so I have made these safe but advised the user they will need to be replaced.

I supose I have one question. Once I get the 4 sockets working, assuming the ones in the loft space still don't work, should I worry about them. The owner has said that they only really want the wall sockets working. But surley if I don't find out why they aren't working, I might not have tested the whole circuit and made it safe?

Any thoughts. (hope all the above makes sense?)

If they are wired then the cable must go somewhere either isolate and remove or repair and test You may find that as the others are repaired and tested that these 2 are linked

Isolate the one in the roof and sort the ones on the wall. If they want the roofspace sockets at a later date then they'll still be there and they can have them rewired to the garage CU on its own cu if theres space.
