Garage supply

O

OhmSweetOhm

Hey guys, is it possible to supply a garage from an old type fuse board? Can't remember whether the board has cartridge or semi enclosed fuses. Either way, is it advisable to feed a CU in the garage from this type of board?

Thanks.

have you got a spare way in the board.? OK to supply sub-board in garage from a suitable fuse in this as long as the cable to the garage does not require RCD protection. then you can fit a small CU in the garage with RCD and MCBs to suit. obviously you would need to ensure your earthing arrangements are up to regs.

Well say for intense the existing fuse board has been earthed via a water pipe or theres no gas bonding or there was no main earth (worst possible scenario) you need to make sure it's up to scratch before making additions to it, in your case running a new supply to your garage, see what I'm saying, sorry it's late I'm probably wording it a bit awkward

Ahh mate the house is like 50-60 years old god knows how the place is earthed. Just tried to rewire my room last week to best of my ability but I took a look in the fuse board and turns out all the sockets in the house are on a 30A fuse. Worst thing is, it ain't my house so there's nothing I can do about it without tearing the house to bits.

Then your in a bit of a pickle lol, all work needs to be carried out to the regs, and if needed notified accordingly, as I'm sure u know, one of them things, but to be honest I'd like to know how the place is earthed if I was living there, or your body could end up being the only earthing arrangement!!! but seriously be safe mate don't cut corners
