3 mistakes mate you have 2 rcd's in series, you haven't connected the cpc at the garage end and you have an earth rod connected.

That's a diagram of how not to do it I assume?
There is no need for the earth rod at the garage end unless there happens to be an extraneous part in there and running a bond is not possible.
And there is no reason to be putting two RCDs in series for a simple garage supply.

RUBBISH. you have a perfectly good TN earthing system. why sacrifice that for a poxy rod which will not give you a low enough Ra to provide fault protection. and if using SWA cable, put the |RCD protection in the bloody garage,

edit. this post aimed at post#1.

Hi Guys,

Having seen so many people asking how to wire a supply for a garage I thought I would draw how i would personally do it for a garage that has a few sockets and a few lights.

If a TT system in the house don't use an Earth rod at garage, just connect supply CPC into garage CU.

Hope it helps. If anyone doesn't agree then blame my old teachers.

James
I don't agree so I therefore blame your old teachers.

Tony,

I am a big fan of your drawings and have learned a lot from them, and this latest offering is as technically accurate and informative as ever, Thankyou ;)

I keep coming across these.......however they're not diagrams theyre more like real life models or more acurately.... life sized installs.
Latest was a TNC-S supply, garage attached directly to house, with its own 2 way RCD DB supplied via a 20amp cb via 2 core SWA (armour not earthed) just like that diagram....Ze 0.12ohms, Ra at garage 312ohms.

Unfortunately it’s what some collages seem to teach.
You find them, the property owner has to agree to you putting right what they were told is to regulations when it was installed. You’re on a sticky wicket from the outset and I don’t envy you.
