Hi

I am not in the trade and new here, just looking for some options if anyone can assist please ?

I have some wooden railway sleepers down the side of the garden and would like to recess some small lights in them. I have seen a low voltage decking light kit, which might do. I also would like to add a couple of spot lights to a rockery.

Here's the question - most of the lighting that I am seeing is low voltage, which sounds good to me but they come with an indoor transformer. The distance from where I can plug in is approx 40feet. I am guessing that the cable that comes on the transformer won't be so long, I could extend it but will the run be too long for proper operation?

Or is another alternative to get a weather proof box for the transformer and have it outside; not sure if condenation could be an issue though?

Many thanks
Steve

low voltage is actually 50V to 1000V AC. I assume as you mention a transformer that they are ELV (extra low voltage) and below 50 V.

My preference would be not to take the transformer outside as then you are taking mains voltage into your garden, which has various implications.
