Hi all some advice please.Asked to do my first shed supply today.Small shed needing a double socket to supply a heat light for a great big bloody dog and some lighting.Problem being C.U. is at front of the cottage ,with concrete floors,to take a SWA cable out front of house around the side and down the gable end to rear garden then to shed long way round and expense for a socket and light! Could i spur of a socket in the kitchen to an adaptable box then SWA and take this supply to the shed which is about 5 meters from the kitchen window. Thanks

Sure. As long as
-SWA is earhed
-where your spurring from doesnt already have a spur
-RCD protection is already provided on socket ring.
- customer is aware that any faults in shed will also trip sockets and vice versa.

Thanks for that, yes there is RCD protection. No spurs there already would you say 2.5mm or 4mm SWA as the customer has no intention of adding anything to this only using for the big dog .No part P or like for me im in Scotland

You can run 20A down a bit of 2.5, but as you'll need to have a 13A fuse somewhere at the start of the spur (because of doing spur-spur for the socket and then light) you'll be more than covered.

If there's anything there that needs to be earth bonded though (steel frame?) then you'll have to consider either running a 6mm earth to it as well, or doing the adiabatic equation to see if a 2.5mm would be sufficient (exported earthing) or go putting in earth stakes and making a mini TT system. There is a very very very well used sticky here on that subject!!
