I’ve got a customer who wants general power (2x sockets) and lighting (1x FL fitting) installed in a garden shed. Now, they may want to move the shed around the garden (don’t know why), so the normal swa/rod method is out the window.

My other idea was to install an IP rated plug on the outside and basically ‘plug’ the shed into an extension lead (RCD in the house) as and when required.

It’s a bit of a strange one, but I’m assuming it would still need notifying as its a special location, or is it now classified as a plug in device?

Customers……don’t you love them!

WHY!!! some people have ideas above there station...!!

go comando mate!! fix an IP connector box outside fix one to side of shed...!! wire shed out and connect to comando socket. leave customer with a reel of cable with comando ends on to plug is shed into teh mains...!! MW works for installation upto comando socket then the rest is effectively a extension cord but give him cert for foxed position and tell him once shed moves the cert is void..!!

That was the plan…..

……until I spoke to the customer again! Now discovered the shed will house a welder, compressor, pillar drill, and various hand tools! Oh, and the shed isn’t moving......so persuaded him to go with the swa/new consumer unit, etc.

Given that, it probably makes sense to TT the shed, unless you can be sure it doesn't act as an extraneous-conductive-part. (The SWA won't have...
