I have recently gone self employed and already had my first awkard customer.

I have quoted for a fuse board change and on my visit noticed that the gas is not bonded. The customer is happy for me to go ahead and change the fuse board but does not want to pay extra to have the gas bonded.

I am just wondering what my options are? Obviously I want to do the job correctly and bring all earthing up to standard and build a reputation as someone that goes by the book but at the same cant to afford to turn away work.

When I worked for that total debarcle known as Total Trade Services <hides quickly>, we had to upgrade all bonding if we had to find a new supply for the heating...was a pain in the a**e as well.

As far as I'm aware, 132.16 applies to additions and alterations.
I'm wondering which heading the replacement of equipment falls under?
Would it be classed as an additon, an alteration, or as something else altogether?

That's on a eicr. You haven't to comply with 17th if you change the fuse board

What do you have to comply with.. Gas regs??

This is new to me mind you.. I am sure all new work has to be as per 17th edition.. Therefore if none present then it has to be installed to 17th.. If present depending on size, condition and earthing arrangements can normally stay..

Haven't tried a DI assessment, in response to richy33333

i need a proof reader.

So how are you dealing with LABC notifications then?

Any jobs I get that require notification I have to do the work though the company I used to work for.

Basically give the job to them, then get paid though them.

They are NIC

Planning to join soon as a deciding which ones best, napit looks like the favourite.

I've kind of come to that conclusion, but also as a company I think I should do it.

Napit isn't just DI it's full scope so I'm leaning with that.

Or just join a stroma for cheapness and to comply with part p.

or wait till the new part p comes out and watch the fall out..

Decisions.........

First of all I would like to explain the 3 different schemes that we have to offer our customers through NAPIT; we have a LEVEL A full scope scheme which is for a qualified electrician who deals with all commercial, industrial and domestic work. The level a register covers you for all re-wires, consumer units, periodic’s, all commercial industrial and domestic work, and you are also able to certify your own work and other peoples work, basically it covers everything from A – Z. We do require 3 qualifications for the level a full scope scheme and these are –
*A formal electrical qualification such as City & Guilds Levels 1 & 2, an NVQ, apprentice etc.
*17th Edition also known as the 2382 (if you hold the 2381 16th edition and this was taken after June 2001 there is a 1day update course that you take to update on the amendments)
*2391 Inspection and Testing (This is not required if you have a 2400 qualification)
However we are still able to join you on our register with just a formal qualification but would ask you gain the 2382 and 2391 within 18months of registering with us.
We do hold courses up at our offices, if this is of any interest to you then please do not hesitate to contact me for more information.

Is this genuine ?

If all the scams are crap anyway, why the big deal on who to chose ?
If it's for domestic part p,any of them will do

If it's comm/industrial,you need none of them
If you need a scam for work generation of comm/industrial,then my very good friends the Niceic approved is the only option (the Eca to a lesser extent )

Be aware, you will need Niceic registration to have any hope of passing brown envelopes to Council procurement chiefs, they won't accept envelopes off the other schemes

Good Morning,
Thank you for your interest regarding joining NAPIT, here is the following information you have requested.
First of all I would like to explain the 3 different schemes that we have to offer our customers through NAPIT; we have a LEVEL A full scope scheme which is for a qualified electrician who deals with all commercial, industrial and domestic work. *A formal electrical qualification such as City & Guilds Levels 1 & 2, an NVQ, apprentice etc.
*17[SUP]th[/SUP] Edition also known as the 2382 (if you hold the 2381 16[SUP]th[/SUP] edition and this was taken after June 2001 there is a 1day update course that you take to update on the amendments)
*2391 Inspection and Testing (This is not required if you have a 2400 qualification)
However we are still able to join you on our register with just a formal qualification but would ask you gain the 2382 and 2391 within 18months of registering with us.

The LEVEL B defined scope scheme which would suit somebody such as a kitchen fitter who does the electrical work but only changes what’s already there, you are not able to do re-wires or changing of consumer units and are only able to certify your own work and not other peoples work. We require 2 qualifications for the level b defined scope scheme which are –
*A formal electrical qualification such as EAL Domestic Installers, VRQ Level 2
*17[SUP]th[/SUP] Edition also known as the 2382 (if you hold the 2381 16[SUP]th[/SUP] edition and this was taken after June 2001 there is a 1day update course that you take to update on the amendments)
Again we are still able to join you on our register but would ask you to gain the 2382 within 18months of registering with us.

JUST 8 scheme, which is only for lectures, employed but qualified individuals and retired qualified NOT for self employed people. This requires all the same qualifications and requirements as the level a full scope scheme but everything must be in place, we DO NOT allow 18months to gain any outstanding qualifications. This scheme allows you to do 8 notifications in the year, however if you feel you will go over the 8 notifications in the year we will automatically upgrade you to our level a scheme which you will just have to pay the differences in price.

For the level a and level b the prices are as follows –
£300 membership & £180 assessment fee = £480 + VAT which in total is £576.00 for your first year membership registration fee, after the first year it’s just an initial £340.00 plus VAT which is a total of £408.00 (renewal fee). If you are transferring from another governing body initial you will not pay the assessment fee therefore in the first year you pay only £300 + VAT £360.00

For the just 8 scheme the prices are as follow –
£185 membership + £55 assessment fee = £240 + VAT which in total is £ 288.00 for your first year membership registration fee,

Everyone that registers with us we will need to hold an onsite assessment for you, this is were one of field officers will come and look at 1 piece of work that you have completed. This piece of work can either be in a customers home or your own home, the field officer will want to look at the quality of the work along with you using your test equipment carrying out the continuity test, insulation resistance test and the phase/earth loop impedance test. Then from the day of the assessment if everything is passed this is the day that you will go onto the register as a LIVE member and you will be able to start notifying your work to us.
NAPIT is unique in being the only Competent Persons Registered holder where every single relevant member's and/or employee is qualified and registered as a competent person. We also offer the Complete Solution covering Electrical, Ventilation, and Plumbing & Heating
