Hello,
I was just hoping to get some (friendly) advice :). I am considering going into domestic electrics and was wondering if anyone from a similar background to me had done it. I'm a time served multi-skilled maintenance Engineer (mechanical biased) with 19 years in Engineering sector and I would like to work for my self, I did an EITB 4 year apprenticeship and BTec ONC in Engineering (multi-skilled), I have my 17th Edition and did a VRQ level 2 Part P course with Lomax training North East UK (They were appalling and it taught me bot all and I was ÂŁ800 lighter). I know about the competent person scheme etc.. but I was hoping that someone on here might have done a similar thing and if so how did they gain decent experience etc.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks David

David,

There are numerous threads on the forum about "retraining" so theres plenty of reading to do. You'll find a lot of negative views - so how you take this will depend on the thickness of your skin.

Gaining experience is the biggest issue, when times are good, but right now, things are tight and this is where you'll probably struggle.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
