I'm looking for a supplier for a 3 position switch to allow either incoming mains or generator supply. Anyone know of a decent supplier at reasonable cost? TLC do one but its only 63A. I'm assuming if wired in permanently it will want to at least match my supply fuse that is 80A. Thanks.

DO NOT PROVIDE A 3 POLE CHANGEOVER SWITCH if this is a 3 phase generator!!! By the sounds of it, you are installing a generator as a stand-by power source for general installation power requirements, which means you will need to provide an isolation point for both the neutrals as well as the phases. Different if all the generator was supplying, were 3 phase motors with no neutral for control purposes....

So providing what i have assumed is correct you will require a 3 position , (Main Power / Off / Gen' Power) 4 Pole Changeover Switch. You will have some REAL problems if you solidly link the neutrals of both systems, and use a 3 pole changeover switch, of that i can assure you!! lol!!

I see I did ask for a "3 position" rather than "3 pole"! Just been told that TLC do them and have a new range in at reasonable prices & specifically for switching single phase supplies over to a generator.

Don't really follow what your saying here?? Are you saying your Genny is single phase, or/and that TLC are doing a new range of single phase changeover switches??

When saying 3 position, that's just taken as ''mains/off/gen'', virtually all changeover switches will be 3 position!! What i'm talking about is number of poles, which is very important on 3 phase set-ups. And as you didn't mention what the Genny or the main supply was, ....is the reason for my posting the above!!!

Mains supply is single phase. Generator is single phase. Local "best practice" amongst the neighbours is an extension lead with a 13A plug BOTH ENDS! Doesn't seem the best idea.......................

The TLC one:

"125A Changeover Switch Single Phase + Switched Neutral -
Allows switching between single phase mains supply and standby generators for emergency services."

Their part number CG M125CS
