Hi,

My solar installation comes with a GEO Solo PV and the cost being £90, But I have been offered an upgrade.

The upgrade is an additional £90 and this is for a GEO Chorus PV energy meter.

Is this a worthwhile piece of kit, I cannot find any reviews of either kit.

cheers,

I'd say they are worth it.
The GEO Solo PV only displays the power you are generating from your PV. It doesn't take into account what your house is actually using - so no idea if you are exporting power.

The new GEO Chorus PV monitors both the PV power, and house consumption.

Monitoring is well worth the money to me. Without it you have no idea on the performance of the system.

Ken

The Geo Chorus certainly looks good. As far as monitoring goes it is similar to the elios4you. However, the Elios4you is not just a monitoring device, it will also switch on circuits when a predetermined excess generation is achieved (to run a washer for example). Using the Power router the Elios4you can also dump spare generation in to an immersion heater (similar to other immersion switches like Immersun or Apollo GEM). There is also the Rexel system that will also display your gas & water usage as well and PV generation, export/import etc. I agree that you need to monitor your system and analyse the performance against expected generation.

And how much is the cost difference between the two? The elios4you needs to be installed by an electrician the geo can be done by the homeowner in about 30 minutes plus you get a portable screen which show the data in realtime

Sorry to interrupt this thread but if you buy the dedicated IP65 enclosure along with the Elios4You (single phase version) it comes with glands/outlets for the CT leads and aerial, and a pre-assembled (and wired through the included fuse/fuseholder) AC mains lead with 3-pin plug. Not entirely sure that you need to have it fitted by an electrician in that case as it can just be plugged in. The CTs are split so easily fitted around existing phase wires.

Whilst I'm on the subject, the Elios4You is a very accurate (1-2%) monitoring platform that is designed to also provide a variety of control features. By default, the base unit has an on-board relay/changeover contact that is rated 10A. This relay can be configured within the APP (free for iOS/Android) for a separate upper and lower threshold based on either generation, import or export levels. As an external control feature, the new Power Reducer (immersion controller) kits will be available here in the UK by the end of this week - ours are in transit now. These will be controlled by the Elios4You unit via an on-board analogue output and provide fully proportional control over excess energy delivered to a resistive load (max 3kW) using PWM technology.

The Elios4You can operate in "direct" mode whereby it communicates with a smart-phone/tablet using its own internal WiFi network. However, when hooked up to an existing WiFi network in the property, the system operates in "indirect" mode and can also be accessed online via the 4-Cloud portal using any web-connected internet browser. Installer and end-client have separate log-in details to the portal, providing a different level of access/overview to the system(s).

Further along on the technology roadmap is the "Smart-Hub" which is a wirelessly controlled hub that can manage up to 4 wireless smart sockets/switches. Again, this device will be managed within the APP and controlled by the Elios4You device. Greenologic/4-Noks are hoping for release within the next month or two.

Fair comment Puddy, everyone should be entitled to their own free choice/informed decision, I was just trying to clarify some of the features of the Elios to be honest. However, £500?? Where on earth did that price come from? We typically only support trade sales so far be it from me to dictate end customer pricing but that does seem rather steep!

As for whether anyone can fit the Elios themselves - if purchased with the enclosure as described then, yes, I see no reason why not to be honest.

Got the Price from Jason 121 when he moved some cables for me. This is why I said the Geo chorus pv was an excellent product for its price with its own display! If you could sell a elios4you to me at £199 would I buy it? Yes If its a yes I will pm my address
