Discuss Germany showing how it's done... again... in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

This article both thrills and depresses me.

Exactly the same emotions here, it is inspiring that Germany is disproving all the naysayers and showing how viable it is when rolled out by an organised and responsible government, it is the last bit that is depressing for the UK.

apparently the reason Germany is managing to close down it's nuclear program is because it's buying nuclear produced electricity from other countries, it's window dressing!!

what I were told by my assessor today so it is second hand info. The attached article would seem to support that

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13595171

can't see how you can just switch all those reactors without getting your energy from somewhere.
Unless they further increased their output from coal fired, which does slightly defeat the object.
They haven't really answered the question on how they intend to achieve this. I note the previous timescale had to be extended. IN the wake of FUkashema that extension has been shelved but with no clear idea of how that will be implemented, which was the reason for the extension in the first place.

I don't see anything in the article that says Germany is Europes biggest exporter of power, have I missed something?

Swedish Environment Minister Andreas Carlgren said Germany's decision meant an "uneven energy policy" in Europe, so Germany will "most probably need to increase the import of nuclear energy from France".
He added: "There is a risk they will not manage as quickly to halt the dependency on fossil fuels, especially coal-based energy."

Maybe so.... but the fact remains that solar energy is producing huge amounts of electricity in Germany. They're leading the world and Britain's efforts are utterly pathetic and reckless.

The Germans have also introduced varying tariff levels . Top FIT rate for European products and lesser rates for Eastern imported products. Brilliant plan to protect German and European jobs. The only exception we know of is Sanyo which was rebranded to Panasonic for exactly this reason.

The Green Deal which is about to be thrust upon us expects us to sell PV at a 7% interest rate for a technology the government is trying to get down to 6% return !!

In the Germany scheme it was 0% interest rate, thats why there is so much PV coverage. We have relations in Furstenfeldbruck near Munich and others near Frankfurt, both had systems in their garages for months as there were not enough fitters !! The biggest problem in Germany is a lot of properties are apartments and rental is more common than mortgage .

In Poole you can drive around and spot the houses with PV in Furstenfeldbruck you are trying to spot the houses, barns etc without PV !!

yep, when I drove through southern Germany it seemed every third house had PV, and houses with a hundred panels were not unusual. Many flats also actually had PV and thermal systems on their roofs. I am amazed more freeholders haven't utilised their roofs to increase their returns on ground rent.
There's no doubt PV works, Germany have proved it, but you have to be prepared, as a nation, to invest in the new technologies. I think binning Nuclear is a mistake though, and I still think it's window dressing. They don't have a viable alternative at the moment and it's just a sop to the greens.

Very angry ! For me solar PV isn't a cash cow its a passion which was a business, the government has let not just us in the industry down they've let everyone down. Energy is one of the most important human needs, fuel poverty only exists because they haven't invested into our future. We need to develop over supply to reduce costs.

Germany is showing us how its done but the government and power companies are not making it easy for us. At the moment our Solar division isn't covering its costs, we are subsidising it from our other businesses and will continue to. We are being under cut by prices that can not be sustained, with installers not even using scaffolding. The fact that MCS and REAL seemed to be a barrier to entry when we first become mcs made the business feel professional. Oh I'm wrong, and no body cares ....!

another rant over good night

It should give fairly accurate results. Bear in mind your car will probably have a smart charging system, so worth having a read up on those.
