Getting an apprentice

Hello people.

Been working in the trade nearly 10 years now, my boss/dad and i want to look into getting an apprentice.

I do remember being one, but now very different being on the other side of it!

Has anyone got any advice on how to mentor an apprentice and what to do with them day in day out!

What range on installation work do you do? To complete the NVQ it would need to be a broad range for the apprentice. IE not just a domestic environment. Good on you for giving someone a chance by the way.

Thankyou. We do mainly domestic work, but its seem that a lot of industrial and commercial work coming through, we are only a small firm of 3.

My advice would be to have a look at the NVQ3 framework to get an idea of what the apprentice would need to complete. Various containment and cable types etc.

Contact your local college or training provider, who will help you out.

Day in day out just have them sticking with you, explaining things to them, about the work your doing, the trade, professionalism etc.

As they progress set them little tasks to do, there own little jobs on site and it progresses from there.
