ayjay

hi to all of the sparkies on here, i once worked at a place called bloxworth house (as a lad btw) i used to ride my bsa 500 m/cycle to and fro--
a very old house built in the 16th century ,we rewired it in micc
there were 4 rooms upstairs via an old spiral wooden staircase, i went upstairs for a mootch in my lunch break
one of the 4 rooms was icy cold and filled me with dread-as if something terrible had happened
ive been told other stories from fellow sparkies and tradesmen about similar things

Not knocking believers of the supernatural, because who really knows...

All i can say is, and IMO that 99% of the time its the mind playing tricks.

One occurance ive had...was house-sitting a 16/17th century farm house when i was a lad with my gf for a family friend at the weekend...On the saturday night, we were sat in the living room just chilling and talking (about midnight) i opened the living room door and in the porch was their black lab...he normally looked and followed you everywhere, when i opened the door the dog didn't even move it was just staring up the stairs wagging its tail. I even said its name and it didn't look at me, which for that dog was very very weird.

Anyway, found out the next week that the dudes dad had died the previous year and his ashes were upstairs in the house somewhere, the house he'd lived in all his life.

Makes you think, but i still don't believe - sorry lol.

I've had a couple of experiences. The one that still shakes me when I think about it was when I was in a very old pub (not working), the gents were down a set of cold stone steps. On my way back up I saw someone coming down so I had to move right to one side. Anyway, this figure just walked straight through me. I was white as a sheet when I emerged into the pub. And there was nobody in the toilets.

I agree. Had doors open in my old house (some were very stiff too), glasses just slid off the kitchen side while watching and have smashed on the floor with 3 people as witnesses. At work sometimes the reception bell rings (small hand bell) but only once which you don't get normally, when the door hasn't opened and no one else is in the building apart from a couple of us both in the same room. We've also had a brand new co2 gas bottle in the bar cellar open up and taps turn on unexpectedly while you're in the room. And the glasswash turn itself off at the socket when no one else is present too. Kinda become a running joke at work now because so much weird **** happens

Im not convinced ayjay but each to their own. I think theres definitley extra-terrestrials out there somewhere...but ghosts im not to sure. Maybe one day ill change my mind :)

I think there are many people in the world who genuinely believe in these apparitions

As far as I am concerned,if they don't interfere with me in any way, these people should be left to believe in whatever Ghost/Paranormal/Sorcerry or Religeous mind games they chose

Completley agree...im abit of a space-freak myself. If driving late at night after shop re-fits or whatever, i often, especially when in the countryside stop and get out and stare at the stars...they're absolutley fascinating ( i am a geek i do realise )

The size of space is just mind-boggling and to think we're the only living beings on our tiny planet, when the size of space is never ending is too hard to believe. That's why im convinved theres something else out there - something so far away we'll never ever get too see it mind you, but they must be something there somewhere.

As for ghosts, i don't believe - Paranormal enthusiasts may not believe in the ET theory, so i can't judge them. I agree they're weird goings on in life - but too me thats all they are, weird goings on untill im lead to believe otherwise. The mind is powerfull though, and i honestly believe alot of what people think they see and hear is down to the old noggin playing tricks on themselves. I do like to hear peoples stories though, they're intersting - as for them Derek Acorah ghost hunt things...yawn.

The Drake equation gets to give one almighty number
Marc your a man of my own thoughts, cosmology is my passion

How can people dwell on such things of just this Earth, like the paranormal, and especially religion with its hoards of fanatics both sad and dangerous, when there is so much out there,it stirs the question how insignificant is this planet and its occupants

Aye it does, and the drake's just for our galaxy isn't it ?

Yeah, the planet is pretty insignificant, like many people say we're the size of a grain of sand compared to the above&beyond. So many questions, and so little answers. Did you watch professor brain coz's series last year about the stars ? fascinating.

When i was in Tenerife on one of them package holidays there was a star-gazing trip on the top of Mt.Teide, the partner thought i was nuts but loved it...got shown the ISS and i could of sat they're all night mesmerised by the fact people were up there, would absolutley love to go to space.

The last one...a billion times bigger than our sun.

And thats only the largest one ever discovered, our telescopes can see like 0.00000000001% of space, so they'll be even bigger sun's than that our their somewhere. It's absolutley amazing.

I need to go to some sort of cosmology anonomus because i could literally talk for hours about it, so fascinating.

Good, it'll keep me busy :) love stuff like that. I'll be hybernating on that site for eternity.

On another note...my missus is gonna hate you archy for giving me that link :38:

Heehee...I was thinking something along that line...

Two things I'd love to see are, Betelgeuse going supernova and the comet later this year that might be the Mother of all Comets, fingers crossed for that one.
Oh, and a Total Eclipse. Missed the one in 2000, sodding cloud!

I remember the total solar eclipse in 2000, everyone got provided with them uv glasses in the local papers...think i went hardcore and took them off for a few seconds, im mental i know.

I woulda loved to have seen Halley's comet...missed the 86 one, and the next one is like 2060 or something isn't it :( boohoo.

maybe that Gas bottle thing happened before and somebody got gassed with it years ago......trapped in the cellar with the contents of a bottle of that having pushed out all the Air...

well lets just say I was at a brewery site once and an alarm started screeching through the whole site....really loud, red and blue flashers....buzzers....bells.....
I had just arrived there and the security guy looked up from his paper and shrugged "its just the CO2 Alarm, nobody in there anyway no night shift this week" I would say that years ago a few people would have got gassed dead by things like that without having any warning.....back when the health and safety didn't really exist...in the days of climbing skyscraper beams without a harness etc...

The first law of thermodynamics implies that no energy gets created in the universe, and none is destroyed. Every energy, every vibration, every Btu of heat, all the photons that have ever bounced off your face, all the particles whose paths have been interrupted, every wave of every particle remains in the universe. According to the law of the conservation of energy, not a bit of it is gone, it just changes into something less orderly. So theoretically ghosts and paranormal activity should be possible. Having said that, I have worked in plenty of morgues at hospitals and hospices and never had a tab on the shoulder or even a single whisper of anything untoward, much to my disappointment. The misses has claimed she saw her late father sitting at the end of the bed one night. So who known what goes on but the answer lies in the stars. There is a massive cloud of alcohol 10000 light years away which is more than 290000000000 miles across. It contains enough alcohol for 400 trillion trillion pints of beer. I will be visiting the area when my time comes, after I've had a closer look at the northern lights of course. :tt1:

q--if everything is made of atoms and molecules, and atoms and molecules arn,t made of anything then nothing actually exists?

Me and some mates got into Urbexing a while ago and there was plenty of abandoned Mental Asylums round our area, while never really experiencing anything truly paranormal or ghostly, the buildings had a very spooky feel to them and obviously being old creaked and moaned a lot. Which was enough to get the ol' ticker going. On exploring the service tunnels of one such hospital at night, with only a poncey little torch for light between five of us, we turned a corner and faced a long stretch of tunnel, as we shuffled further down we could see a figure looming in the middle of the tunnel. After we'd all cacked it and finished screaming, we later discovered that some previous explorer had hung a straightjacket off the pipes. Another visit to a different asylum, a friend and I were in a large ward block, I was looking out of a window and could suddenly hear whistling, I looked down and on the porch area of a low building was a man sitting in a plastic garden chair, he didnt look like security or anything like that, he looked wierd, anyway he carried on whistling away. It was wierd, we didnt see him again that day. Maybe he was a ghostly ex patient? Who knows! Shoulda got that Derek Acorah dude in to have a sniff around!

But aren't atoms and molecules made of something?
course they are atoms are composed of nucleii and electrons. molecules are made from atoms, and the moon ( to bring cosmology back into the equation) is made of cheese.

Given that atoms consist of 99.9999999999999% empty space. All of us, you and me, the computer screens we are looking at and the chairs we are sitting on are mostly not there, and the energy fluctuations allowed by the Heineken Uncertainty Principle do not allow the moon to be made of cheese. Sorry bro! Don’t let that John Heywood nonsense cloud your judgment. The moon is made of cake, ask any Chinese person and they will tell’ya.

Will do bro! Space has a acrid aroma of seared steak, hot metal and welding fumes, so we’ll need plenty of PME Export to keep us inebriated and Missy to keep us company.

I haven't see anything my self but when I have worked in service tunnels under ship yards, railway tunnels, large empty buildings, dark houses when the power is off my mind starts playing tricks on me.
I do remember jumping when some pigeons flew out when I was in an empty building.

I visit 28DL, Urbex uk and subbrit

Working at the Arthur Findlay Spiritual College in Essex. This is an actual college were they teach spirtualisum. Bit weird when you walk in the old classrooms and the students are trying to contacting the dead. (opps sorry wrong classroom) Must admit haven`t see any ghost as yet, but is a fantastic old building

Tazz, as long as they’re only trying to contact the dead and not trying to raise them…lol
That place must be like a whole new electricians playground. Can you imagine the fun and games you can have with them. Things like the sound of floorboards lifting up would really freak them out…lol

Woke up one night to see somone sat on the bottom of the bed,sat there for a moment waiting for my eyes to adjust, yep there was definately something there so I jumped up and it disappeared into the built in wardrobe. At this point I put the light on and open the wardrobe door, nothing! wife wakes up thinking I lost it,our daughter came in (19years old) to find out what the noise was,so I explained what was happening she then said she had seen it several times but hadn't mentioned it in case we thought she'd gone mad, when the 2 sons came round we mentioned it to them and they said they'd seen something too, but like their sister had decided not to mention it.never seen it since so who knows?

Lets hope that the comet will be visible by day

It sure is incredible to think (that for all we know) the supervova may have already happened

We could wake up tomorrow with the glare of that supernova forming another sun like feature in our skies (or if we were extra unlucky the end of life on earth)

What relevance would the silly conflicts of humans have in those circumstances I sometimes wonder

The subject does have one thing in common with the silliness that is religion, it is one sobering thought for humanity that will never go away
The end of the world is nigh

We eventually learn about and travel the cosmos or mankind will and must perish

Only (!) 640 years away, so might not have gone off yet!

Love the 'silliness' descriptor, very polite, not the word I'd use.

I'm sure I've read that inter galactic, and time, travel is possible, just takes phenomenally vast amounts of energy to do it, so it ain't going to happen!

Haha...Mark's very quiet today, trawling his way through the archive! :-)

I just want to curl up in a ball now after reading this thread. If i over think any of these subjects, the temptation to simply run around naked for the rest of my life drinking pina coladas in Hawaii living under a bush on the beach just gets more and more likely.

Why work, stress, struggle, worry, make any sort of effort to anything....when the total blatancy of our insignificance is so hard to argue with.

It's time to ditch the clothing and remain drunk for the rest of my days on the creamy rum goodness soaking up that horribly 'small' sun we appear to have in the grand scheme of things.

When I was a boy (about 2) we live in the top floor of a house in London, my parents have told me that the windows in my room would always be open, when my dad shut them and left the room, when he went back in they would be open again. He even nailed them shut once an they were open. Also when my parents were sleeping my mum woke up to see a figure at the bottom of the bed, she tried to wake my dad but he wouldn't stir, she was hitting his arm and everything, apparently in the morning my dads arm was black and blue from my mum hitting him, but he didn't even know what happened

One thing is for sure, we’ll never be able to figure out the riddle to the ultimate questions “Why are we here and what‘s it all about?” with those overclocked ape brains of ours.

Besides, this is how god's gonna do us when he gets tired of us.
