Evening all,
as I’m preparing for my Inspection and Testing exam, I wonder if you might put me straight on something please?
When performing a global insulation resistance test at the CU, I would link the L busbar to the N bar then afterwards to the E bar. I understand that the circuit breakers must all be on (closed) for this and that the RCBO needs to be removed from the test (by removing the N fly lead and switching it off (open) in this case) to avoid damage to the electronics.
How about the RCDs? I’ve tried to follow a couple of threads on here and a couple of YouTube videos but the ones covering global testing seem to be conflicting? Some say CBs on and RCDs off. I can‘t imagine how my return path would be complete without the RCD on (closed)? But there also seems to be some discussion of RCDs being damaged by the 500v used in the test and I am not sure if they are actually referring to RCBOs rather than RCDs?
Anyway, sorry for the long ramble. My brain is due for some mindless TV viewing I think…
Thanks for reading right to the bottom of this!
