Hi All, I bought the GN3 last summer and have been reading through it and would like to know what the differences are between the old and new versions? Do I need to buy the newer version?

Presumably the exams will be to the old version?

Apologies if this question has been raised before.

Thanks,
Dipzy

The new GN 3 incorprates the new Ammendement 1

There has been lots of changes to the way Periodic Inspections are recorded on a EICR and codes.

My nephew did the 2391 recently and he states is was based on the new ammendments.

IMO you need the new updated virsion but I am sure one of the forum members who teach 2391 will be able to correctly inform you!!

I raised the question with C&G because the new regs and the new GN3 are out and include all the ammendments we should use the new terminology for example the PIR is now electrical installation condition report, but it was indicated for the upcoming 2391 in June that they would accept the use of old terminology.

I deliver the new 2394 and 2395, it is done to the amended GN3 and amended everything else. There was a honeymoon period with the crossover from 2391, but not sure when it ends. I would be using the new GN3 and its terminology irrespective of qualification just to be on the safe side, you will need to get familiar with it anyway. Not a lot has changed, testing is pretty much as it was, the main changes are the EICR and codings C1,2 and 3. Filling in the report is quite a bit different from the old PIR, but its not rocket science.

Cheers..............Howard
