I have found work with a local PV company near Manchester and he has asked me to go self employed.
I have no experience of this and would like some advice; I have all the relevant qualifications (2399 level 3, 01, 11, 12 and 2391.

My question is what’s the going day rate for a PV electrician? I don’t have any experience in installing yet but don’t want to sell myself short, what’s the rate for someone with experience and one without? Also any advice on public liability? And what happens about the travel costs can I charge him per mile and how much would this be? And can you charge both ways and just one way?

I’m also buying a car today and am intrigued as to whether I can claim this against tax and still charge per mile. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

You rate you ll have to haggle with him.(I see it advertised near me for £150-£200 a day own van and tools)
On the car from you can claim 40p per mile for business use.
You cant claim the price of the car or servicing etc etc.
Best thing i ever did was pop into the tax office, They ll tell you it all.
I got them to fill in my tax return for last year :D
Personnal id go in cheap and get the experience under my belt. Alot of people are just crying out for work myself included.

Thanks for replying Matt. yeah I was thinking 150 mite charge a tad lower then, but wasn’t sure what happens with fuel as I’m sure a time will come where I have to travel a fair distance.. I take it this come out of my own pocket and I just claim the 40ppm.
I will most defiantly visit the tax office then buy the sound it if thanks. Is it quiet for PV down there? I thought it would be, seen a few jobs advertised for PV down south.

Im not clever enough for PV yet J so asking me that side is pointless lol
Get in the tax office mate, Just make sure your armed with all your Questions as they dont tell if you dont ask :D
There the same as use, Doing the same job day in day out, why would they want to complicate there day if you can get away with a easy one!!
Claim for a room in your house as a office etc, your landline and internet etc you can claim for one or the other.
There not as bad as you think, I even blagged her to write all my figures down so im armed for next year!
