Evening all. my mate has been left a house a by his nan and is moving in, now the problem is this house was built in the 50s/60s and has never!! been up dated or even decorated since lol. i had a look around there the other day.
(im am just about to finish my first year studying the 2330)
the wiring looks very old and in a very poor worn state, also the house is only protected by a main 60/80A fuse compared to 100A on modern houses.
so he is planing on moving with his big screen TV's stereo's computer and laptop, etc etc. he also said about a brand new bathroom with new power shower.
I know he obviously needs a full rewire with new C.U with nice MCB's and RCD's but he said he simply has not got the money for a rewire. my tutor today told me you can get grants for this, to modernise an old house. I've been looking on the net for 2 hours and not found any thing.
can any one help please??

yes you can but think its limited to things like loft insulation cavity wall etc otherwise we all be making millions

You would have to speak to your local council

Phone your local council, I tried to get a grant for a new roof but was told that I had to have owned the property for five years before I could even apply.
