Just got back from an amzingly small almost empty RetroExpo / Installer Live.

If it wasn't for the Green Deal(ers) if would have been a ghost town. Only thing new of substance was a plethora of EWI / SWI and Hard To Treat insulation solutuons.

Net effect, I got even more worried for the consumer.

I can see hoards of Private and Social Housing landlords getting the capital value of their assets greatly enhanced, all paid for by the current and future tennant(s) with no gaurantee of reduced costs.

Backed up by all the insulation companies deperate to hold on to / rebuild a business, followed by the free solar scumbag salesmen retrained as GDA's.

One of the Green Deal Providers (there are only three approved so far..) commented that they are already seeing the type of sales and promotion tactics that we all abhor in use promoting the Green Deal. They also commented that they don't see that either Gemserve (NMCS) or Real have the gravitas, experience or 'kahunas' to legislate it properly and they are just waiting for it to hit the front page of the Daily Mail / BBC Watchdog - and that's from a GDP !!! They are also seeing tradespeople that they know are cowboys, already registered as Greed (sic) Deal Installers.

Doom and Gloom merchant? No, I reckon that the renewbles industry has a great future despite the Wind being taken out of the governments sails today, just that the Green Deal is the wrong mechanism and it will not be the saviour for most of the installers on here.

We have a 30 second video advert running every 15 minutes to a captive audience of AB's starting in the next few weeks, and we're going to run it for 2 years - that's how confident I am that a market exists, it's just changed.

I agree I think the green deal could easy be dragged into the same mud as solar pv did by the sales people types not the good ols installer or GDA that as an intrest in the subject dont get me wrong I didnt get into solar or the green deal because I want to save the plant I want to earn a living but I also enjoy helping other save money at the same time.

I started my GDA journy last year and still working towards it now. but I am worried that the green deal will be the next best thing for the tyical bull talking sales guy who just wants a sale. I think only qualifed DEA's and GDA's should have contact with the client at least then not every tom dick and harry can go into a home a sell sell sell.

Knowing the way that the bigger sales operations works, (and I've already heard the term used on the phone to me) I can gaurantee that they will get all their sales guys qualified as GDA's. When I asked the three GDP's at the show what steps they had taken to ensure impartiality of their apppointed GDA's (they all had or were recruiting in house or affiliated GDA's) not a single one had an answer..

The line I had on the phone within the last 10 days when they were trying to flog insulation was that they wanted to send round one of their "Energy Saving Assessors" to see which technologies we would be eligible for, when I asled if they where qualifies sa Green Deal Assosors, they said 'yes we as a company are', I repeated was the INDIVIDUAL qualified and they said 'Yes they are trained Energy Saving Assessors' - the conversation went round in circles at that time....

I am sure MEP that there is a place in the market and an opportunity for good, ethical, independant GDA's and GDI's I just haven't been able to work out where the money is for us in all this yet.... (and with the best will in the world I'm not going to do it just for the love of it - we aren't a charity..)

I've aired my comments about the green deal just waiting for the Panorama exposé. The government will be shamed to ever envisage such a greed creating scheme for property barons !!

Green deal is NO DEAL at the moment talk of all your training and effort as a GDA to mount to about ÂŁ50 per GDR thats minus petrol two visits to property.

ÂŁ50 is not worth doing it then you got petrol x 2 and stationary etc . the EPC and GDR take 2 hours ish excluding travel

Sorry to here is that for definite

@MEP, I thought you were one of the advocates, I know you've invested in websites etc...

What do you belive (with your positive thinking hat on) will be the likely business opportunities and scale of them over the next 12 months, and what technologies will be the winners, and what type of clients?

I.e. Is my doom and gloom outcome for Green deal wrong. , misjudged or overstated? - More than happy to be pulled apart on my assumptions (in the sun lounge :)

I still like the Idea of the green deal do not get me wrong , the problem is the big boys hold the key to pricing in this game

Three of the Green deal providers on green deal orb have contacted me because I have a client with lots of propertie so they want to get there hands on the work but the prices they are offering for the reports are not worth it at there ÂŁ50-ÂŁ65 per GDR ......

I do think that if you build a network of a good GDP - GDA and GDI's then you can take on the big boys ........ I am builing a network now so the little biys can pull together and get a bit of the apple if your intrested register on the link below here . we can pass work and jobs between us here .... Also Iwill be a GDAS so if you have a EPC you can lodge your GDR via us and we will then link with or provider and then you get to install the work.

so if you want to get involed in the green deal just as a GDI but do not want the hassle of the GDA you can do it under our umberlla as we will become a GDAS to lodge all your certs.

So if anyone would like to link up into our tight Green deal network and bat the works between us then register on my site soon.
If any of you are DEA's but not GDA you can register under our GDAS scheme and be able to lodge Green deal Reports.

I have linked up with a soon to be green deal provider and I am also applying for GDP but may take a while yet.

I want to build a good network so between us we can do the whole job and compete agaist the big boys .

It will work in theory so let us know what GDI's you will be or if you are a GDA or DEA
