Hi All,

seems like a great forum for a sparky in training, been reading some of the posts for the whole day! Time to say hi!!

25 yr old in NW London, recently started studying my C&G 2330 (lvl 2&3) & 2356 NVQ lvl 3 (when the time comes!) & 2391 with OLCI.... I know, I know.....intensive short couses can be frowned upon here! In my defence, I did the research and know that a course on its own wont cut-it in the "real world"! But anyway....

hoping to introduce myself to a practising electrician or firm with the view of working as a mate, or extra pair of hands to get as much experience as possible, (I will pursue another thread for this!)

In the meantime, hi!

Jamie

Nothing wrong with intensive training. My entrance to the trade came when I was fed up with the corporate world and did my exams alongside a day job, Monday nights, Wednesday nights, Thursday nights, Saturday mornings. Took and passed 13 exams including 2391 and acheived 6 distinctions. Today I have more work than I can handle and plenty of referrals. And if anyone says i can't be a 'proper' sparky cause I'm not time served, I say some of the work I have seen by 'proper' sparks makes me cringe.

Thanks Qedelec,

I do hope you didnt think I was being rude or insensitive to any-one that has already completed an intensive course. At the end of day, it depends on the indivdual circumstances. Like you, I am changing career paths (rather late in my case!) so have to account for time & finances.

I am very pleased to hear that you succesfully passed all your exams, and hope one day to be in the posisition of having more work than I can handle!!! But your post certainly helps aleiviate any concerns I had about the intensive course route.

Thanks for your post.

Not at all, just thought you needed the encouragement. Age is not an issue. I started when I was 52. Maturity can make for a better trades person and folk are happier to have you in their homes if the domestic market is where you wish to work. If you want any help my details are available via NICEIC listings under QED Electrics Ltd.
