Hi all

I am presently involved with installation of home cinema systems and multiroom audio/home automation systems and have discovered this board in my search for knowledge and improving my skills.

Although I am at age 40 a bit on the mature side for training as an electrician I am currently trying to decypher the various paths I need to achieve some sort of qualification that would enable me to carry out some electrical work on the installs since it feels like half the time on site I feel like I'm hanging around waiting for a spark to turn up.

I suppose I could do one of those crash courses for Part P and wiring regs and the would cover the residential installs but I find myself gravitating towards the normal electrician route to cover all bases.

I have looked at local colleges and sized up the C+G 2330 level 2 and 3 and other classroom courses however am I right in thinking I also need a NVQ level 3 work experienced assessed qualification? Not a major problem depending on the amount of experience I need to include in the diary. I have secured a company who would be willing to accept my offer of free services so I can gain experience but I still need to retain the day job so it will only be on a part time basis.

What is the minimum time expected to gain the NVQ level 3 if only working part time?

Bog
