I have purchased a set of Steinel Combi Check 1.2 voltage indicators and was wondering if they comply with GS 38.

I have the GS38 guidance note and as far as I can see, they do, can anyone confirm????

I had a look on line for them and as far as i can see fron the online manual they aren't for the following reasone.

1. both legs are not fused.
2. over 1mm om matal parts exposed at tips.
3. what type of cable is it between the probes? is it double insulated?
4. i coudlnt seee any refrence to GS 38 on the manufacturers data which they would say if they were.
5. how to you prove it they are working before testing?

I may be wrong here bit i have faith in my martindale and drummond test lamps and proving unit.

I think there are older and newer versions now, because mine have approx 2-3mm exposed tip at max, GS38 says between 2-4mm, preferably 2mm.

Also, not sure if my understanding is correct but on GS38 in section 12(b), it says alot of stuff about these types of indicators that looks to be saying they are ok???
But again, surely it would say so in the specifications????

I personally prove test them on a 'known' supply before and after use. Or a proving unit could be used.

Rik.
