gu10 mains lamp blowing

hi all i have changed 6x gu10 downlights in a kithchen as the down lights befor kept blowing there were LV.

what may cause the lamps to blow regualy eg only 3-4 hours of being on? all suggestions would be grat

Most likely rubbish lamps.
Second most likely insufficient ventilation.
Check voltage is within acceptable limits as well

no lamps are good! so how come the lamps befor (LV) kept blowing aswell

Insulation over the top?
In the end if quality lamps are fitted to correct fittings with adequate ventilation,acceptable voltage and not subject to vibration etc they will last a reasonable time.

May have misunderstood...are the GU10's blowing?or was it only the LV lamps which you have replaced with GU10?

both the LV

and the GU10 lamp blow after about 4 hours four of the six go. there is clear ventilation no insulation over them. the new down lights are fire rated. all test seems ok >99 IR and 0.89 R1+R2

am i correct in saying that GU10 lamps have a rating of 230V and say the Volts are 238 may be that may cause them to go??

I really do not think 8v will make the lamps blow.

can u explain why the loose connection of the N would effect the lamps going?

You are right to ask and learn. and to try and think of all options. Is it the same four that blow as the four ELV lamps that kept blowing?

lamps genarally have a tolerance,sounds just like poor quality lamps,halogens are so hit and miss,some last years,my bathroom ones have lasted 8 years(hope i dont tempt fate here)no failures,others like my kitchen go regular,although they might look pretty,downlights can be a real pain,the next client to ask me to fit a load im gonna recommend led spots as the saving over time pays.

so i think what i shell do is do a continutity test between L-N and N-E so test for loose connection? what do u think. i fitted 6x low enegry lapms when i fitted them and they did not blow!! but she didnt like the light and wanted GU10 buls insted since then 4 have gone
