i am looking to change some bulbs over to low energy at the moment they are mr16 i was going to use the same fittings but do away with the transformers and buy the gu10 sockets do the low energy run any cooler than the halogen ? btw there are 8x50w on about12 hours a day dusk to dawn thanks

Have a look at the kelvin rating of the lamps the warm white one's are around 2500K the cool white's are around 4000K, The lower the K rating the more likely you are to get the same light colour as an incandescent lamp, as said above LEDs now look identical to Halogens and tungsten's.

There are better websites have a look around the usual suspects Phillips, Osram, Megaman.

You can get a 9watt CFL retrofit for GU10, it gives out about the same as 40watts but if you have a few of thm in you won't notice the difference.
You can get these in warm white or in cool white so you can let your customer choose which they like.
