... Back again. Shady's back.

Hey guys,

That time again for a new academic year thought I'd post a thread to get back to it and get the TS active abit.

What are your plans for this year? What are some subjects you want to get better at? Subjects you feel confident with?

Full college day tomorrow and honestly can't wait, lots of wiring diagrams and finally some practical work. Not the best at diagrams (reading or writing) so I can't wait to get to it. Hoping to get ahead and get my portfolio on abit could do with some pointers. Got loads of photos just need some tips on getting the most from them.

Also hoping to get ahead early so I've got some breathing space. Been practicing for my point to point practical(been practicing with pyro) and hoping to get my regs exam in early(again more pointers please?)

How about you guys?

Welcome back pal.

How do, the learning never stops!:persevere:

Hmm... do I lack ambition?:)

For any photo just see if it covers more than one aspect of required evidence.
You can reference a photo again and again if it is one demonstrating multiple aspects.
E.g. a picture of an SWA running off tray to a glanded motor with you in the picture could cover: PPE, Tray work, SWA termination, work at heights, motor control, earthing, bonding...

Regulations is easy, it is all there is the book, you just need to be able to find the appropriate regulation!

That's the problem I have, I'd like to be able to take some photos of some of the small jobs I carry out but getting me in the picture with them is an issue when alone. Do I invest in a selfie-stick?

That said, I'm taking a bit of a plunge and dropping a day at work to work for my uncle 1-day a week, so hopefully I should get some good opportunities there. Just hope it all works out - not in a position to drop a day at work and then to be told by him there's no work on every other week.

@ DOODY TOODY, hope you have not been falling down drunk and laying in a gutter outside a nightclub!!! Or setting fire to fish tanks LOL.

If you want some evidence for your portfolio, you can jump on a little job I have this coming Saturday. SWA in a garden feeding a garage and another circuit for garden lights. You can gland off, I'll take photos and even ask my mate to tag along (he is an NVQ qualified assessor btw). You can dead test the garage, I'll do the live testing (Zdb2 aka Ze). You can then do the Zs tests using the plug in adapters for the sockets and lights. I'll print off a 3 signature cert and you can sign the "tester" section, how does that sound mate?

ps, job is near my house. You know where I live.

pps. Great little cafe around the corner, butties are on me ;)

Sounds good, pretty sure I've got all the tools I need barring a proper test kit, got some drills just have to borrow some drill bits.
Ive got a rough idea of where you live, pm through your postcode please and what time you want me there.

Just bought a p touch print. Ooo extra fancy, see you Saturday mate. Cheers

May or may not have given myself concussion after a party, haven't been in any gutters and technically it was the fish tank stand underneath it ;)

PM sent for address. As for drills and drill bits, its down to me to bring them, got everything bud so dont worry about it. Just bring basic hand tools that you like using.

This will be good for your NVQ portfolio, it ticks a lot of boxes. Pulling SWA in trenches, glanding off, terminating a small cu, dead testing, live testing. Should be fun.

Bring your steel toe boots, I'll provide all the other PPE you need for the photos. Tin lid, vest, glasses/over glasses? (up to you on that one), Kevlar gloves for cutting, class II gloves for pulling....... Risk assessment Method statement may look good a well ;).... see you Saturday buddy.
