Hi there, I'm new to this forum. I'm going to install a double socket and a light in a garden shed. My plan is to run a switched fused spur off the kitchen ring as a spur to the shed, where I'll put a double pole switch and then the socket and light. I'm using some steel armoured cable underground to run from the fused spur to the double pole switch. I believe this will only require a MWC. Would that be correct? As such its not notifiable, is it? I have the appropriate qualifications (2391, 17th ed etc) but I'm not registered yet (took all the courses and then got a job that didn't require me to get registered) and I am comfortable with the testing required, but as it is a while (about a year ago) that I qualified, the details of certification etc are a bit rusty and I just want to be sure I'm doing it right. Your help and advice would be :38:gratefully received.

Yes, thanks all. I have considered coming off the CU as suggested, but does that not then become a new circuit and is therefore notifiable. Its not that I want to avoid notification, necessarily, but as I'm not in a scheme, I'd have to pay someone to inspect and test (or at least confirm the testing), thus increasing my costs significantly.

But surely you wouldn't choose a less than satisfactory method which will cause customer inconvenience because you're not in a scheme? Doesn't seem fair on the customer to me. Daz

Of course not, but the only customer in this is me, so the cost is an important part of this. If its as simple to join a scheme as it would appear from previous comments, then I might consider doing it a different way, but I suspect I'll need more evidence than this to demonstrate my suitability to join any scheme and as I said before, I don't NEED to be a scheme member for my work, so it could be a cost too far for this simple task.
