Hi, just started work for a new company.

My first job is to re-wire all the sockets in a 4 bed house.

Problem is the wholw house including kitchen is on 1 ring main, and I have to install a new kitchen ring, an up ring and a down ring as that is what is spec'd. All wiring positions are to stay exactly the same. No extra outlets, oh and no overtime allowed, 8 hour days only. This is a lived in house with furniture and carpets. NIGHTMARE.

My question is, well am after tips from the more experienced guys, what do you think is the best method to do this, as obviously before leaving each day I need to ensure power is on, and I cant chase the walls until the powere is off, bit of a nightmare really.

Was thinking of wiring to positions and coiling cables up first day, 2nd day knocking off power and trying to chase out and wire into points like a mad man. There will be two of us, but the other guy is a waste of time.
was also thinking of trying split ring in to 2 radials and disconnecting bit by bit, but time consuming. The reason these sockets are being re-wired is there was EIC report completed and no end to end on ring, further investigation lead to cables buried in walls not jointed or terminated and random disconnected cables under floors. Bit of a mess really and dangerous to say the least.

Any help and guidance, hints or tips will be much appreciated.

Thanks Guys!!!!

If there is 2 of you and your going to try and utilize the existing points, are the original drops run through oval conduit ? If they are you could try and pull the new stuff through, but that is a task in itself.

Floor boards up and as much wiring as you can do in the first day, and just put them back down at the end not secured. Try and see if the customer will work with you, ie perhaps bedrooms not being used to put furniture in as a depot and work like that, leaving non essential stuff in it over night.

End of the day they will want you in and out as quick as possible, so try and work with them. I always tried to set up a little temp board for them and a few extensions dotted around for appliances a long lead up the stairs and take a few local leads off to bedrooms, that way you maybe able to kill the ring final completely for a couple of days.

If they are Aholes then your a bit snookered, but mostly people will tend to work with you rather than agianst

wire the kitchen ring first and wind exhisting ring up,when you done that kill the power down/up ring you got power in the kitchen and mminimal convenience to occupier

tell the boss its a 3 day job and work solid for 24hrs then take the other 2 days off :)

as above speak with people in house and see if they will work with you. Could you split the tails and put in a temp board and loan them some extensions to use while you rip everything out and replace?

Yep it's tenanted.

A temp d/b and loads of extension leads is probably the only way to go, Am thninking day 1 we can keep the ring on and wire to positions, then day 2 and three the ring needs to be dead an ripped out in order to wire and chase to back boxes.

Thanks for the tips!
