Hello my name in Dan. I have just finished my 2330 c&g lv2 and lv3. I will be looking to get some experience before applying for my nvq lv3. I was just wandering what are the basic tools needed for a sparkys mate. I have a small budget as I only have a part-time job and have a full time girlfriend which is a drain on the resources. So any help on the basic tool list to start off with would be very much appreciated.

I have my17th regs exam tomorrow which is typical as the crucial England game is on, tough descisions must be made revision or booze.

Thanks for your time

If servicing your girlfriend is a higher priority then ensuring you can do a good compatant job then don't think about working for yourself.
Get a good selection of quality hand tools asap. Cutters and various screwdrivers to start.

these CK combi cutters along with screw drivers are probs what get most use in my tool bag. A quality voltage tester could also save your life, mind good tools don't come cheap, especially good voltage testers!

I can make a good cup of tea. Thanks for the advice I have all the basic building tools already as I do a bit of building work on the side. I get paid next week so will be purchasing the combi cutters then. How much am I looking at for a good quality voltage indicator?(maybe I should stop asking questions and find out for myself)

Thanks again and cheers for your time

Edit. Ck Insulated-Side Combi Cutter 3 160mm, 30 notes including delivery is this a good price?

test-meters are about the cheapest for test instruments that i have come across on the net - mind you still have to add vat

Got my Megger 1553 and Martindale voltage tester / proving unit from test-meter. Just had a look and prices have gone up a bit.

Not a great fan of the stripping side cutters, a right pain when working quickly and you want to cut flex constantly have to remember to cut at the front of the blade :(
