Which hacksaw and blades would you recomend for cutting tray, first time on a tray job so its got to look good !!

I have an Irwin one. I think I bought it from B&Q.
I would use the blade which came with it, or one out of the box of consumables on site. IMO technique is more important than what kind of saw you use - mark the cut using a set square, let the saw do the work and keep the cut straight, then file it down.

If I had the choice I'd use a chopsaw, then file the edge down. Quicker, easier and neater.

buy a bacho 319 hacksaw. its the dogs, and its bright orange!! this is what hacksaw blade should be used and for what purpose.

for very thin materials, use a junior hacksaw
for normal gauge tray and trunking then a 32tpi blade in a normal hacksaw
for thicker gauge tray and trunking, then a 24tpi will do.
for unistrut or other thick materials, then an 18tpi blade is the dogs, but most people will use a 24, as 18s are harder to get hold of.

the technique with cutting tray and trunking is:

1) mark it out properly, using a pencil and a square. if you cant see your marks very well, then use masking tape.

2) let the saw do the work. dont push to hard, and dont try and cut 90% across the material, you wand the blade to be closer to the peice. this is especially important if you are having to make do with a coarser blade than you might want.

3) use the full length of the blade!!!!!

oh, and make sure the blade is in the right way around. the teeth should point to the front of your hacksaw.

Much easier with a bacon slicer - overwise any old hacksaw that has a nice comfy grip will do.
