Hi to everyone, I'm a newbie to the forum.

I have a question about a Hager DB I'm doing a rewire on, it has a 3 pole & neutral main switch SB499F AC22A IEC947-3. I've looked all over the web for the breaking capacity so I can complete the installation certificate.

Am I just having a dumb day..? any help would be great.

Main switches do not have a breaking capacity. They are designed only for switching a specified load. Only fuses, circuit breakers,RCBO's and the like will have a breaking capacity as these are designed to break under a fault current up to their design tolerance.

You normally put the breaking capacity of and type of the main supply fuse in the boxes before type of main switch. For instance a BS1361 type 2 incoming supply fuse will have a breaking capacity of 33Ka.

Right got you, so you work you way back e.g. sub board, mainboard, incomming supply. So this board is supplied from a rather large UPS with 3 outputs, trace the DB back to the UPS output breaker that supplies it and use thats breaking capacity on the certificate.

Many thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

I've still so much to learn.
