Hello,

Had a sparky install a new consumer unit, has it been done correctly. Bare in mind the chap cut corners on other bits of work he was contracted to do.

The regulations now require that the main switch and rccb are protected against overload and that diversity of the final circuits shall not be solely used.
Manufacturers instructions should be followed.
The primary ocpd could be 60/63 amps so it would be acceptable, then again it could be 80/100
That's why Hager is fitting only 100A RCD's in their consumer units now.

A right Bogger's muddle. awful, a Plumber was he? cus he aint no Electrician, if he says he is, he want's to give up, and flog his tools, any certificates issued? if so I would love to look at them, was he a member of one of the CPSchemes?

The first guy was a NAPIT member etc, neighbours had used him, said he was a star. As a non sparky, us Joe Bloggs out there are at the professionals mercy, lucky we found a new guy who fixed it all and seems ok.

Its always a sorry tale when work has to be redone and paid for a second time
Poor standards even reflect negatively on the vast majority who do good work and are honest tradesmen

The tale had a happy ending... we found a chap who seemed to know what he was doing. It is a shame, I only noticed something was up when I saw taped up cables in the loft and thought... eh... that doesn't look right.
