Hello all,
I have built a couple of boxes out of MDF for 50w GU10 fittings (two lights in each box)
They are 6" x 6"x 32"ish or 150mmx150mmx 800mmish in new money.
I have put a vent in each.
Should I be thinking about "treating" the inside of the boxes with any fire retardent product or am I worrying about nothing?
I would appreciate your views.

They should usually be at least 500mm from the nearest flammable surface, but check with the manufacturer's instructions on the particulars.
You may be able to have 'cool beam' lamps closer, but check the fittings are compatible.

Fire rated fittings are so cheap it's silly not use them. If you're trying to fire rate old ones use plaster board and intumisant sealant instead of MDF. If it's in a roof I don't think you need to worry about fire but need to keep the insulation off. Timber boxes are ok for this to maintain the fibreglass for building regs.
