Are H+S rules a bit O.T.T these days?? Or are they something thats needed to reduce injuries??
Whats your worst accident?? I managed to take out 3 phase supply when an apprentice , saw white light for about 2 hours after.and a bloody big -------ing off the gaffer.

I think we will all agree that health and safety is important but certain things really wind me up.
Outlawing of steps except for certain usage
How are we supposed to do a method statement for a normal rewire.

As far as I can seemethod statements are there to protect the employer and not the sub-contractor, basically you are signing off the way that you will be carrying out the installation, now we all know that things change when we get to site and the PLAN of action changes, but we usually crack on to get the job done as the client would want us to but if anything goes wrong its "ah but you werent doing as per your method statement".

I think in the past H&S has been carried out by he person doing the job...if they thought it was risky they did not do it...nowadays people are employed solely to think up silly H&S regs...the more they think the more silly regs appear...I have Nebosh Cert and Iosh Management but if you really just look at H&S its just basic common sense....

my mate who is nolonger with us (rip john)was rewireing a house a few yrs back and told the old lady that there would be boards up on landing so to be carefull if she needed toilet .
guess what she fell through 1 leg right up as far as it would go, because of splinters from taking boards up they could not move her as to much pain
enter fire brigade lots of ackrose later and joists cut away she was free
council sent h&s said he should have barried of landing cones tape etc(its only 1 meter wide the landing )
and there was a downstairs toilet
he was fined cant remember how much now but who uses cones in a rewire get real

At college we were told that when using scaffolding there is a major deviation from the regs happening at nearly every building site in the country right now. A lecturer told us that round the base of all scaffolding there needs to be......bean bags.

Yes, you read that right.....

scaffolding seems to be one of the biggest issues for the H+S army. worked on one site doing second fixes, had to use platform to connect ceiling roses. tool box not allowed (to stand on!)
