Am I required to put a heat detector in a new build garage? The garage ain't attatched to the house it's a couple of meteres away from it?

im sure its only if the garage is part of the house, and if it has a room above will be a fire sealed ceiling too, cant see as an uninhabited detached garage would warrant heat detection

Hi Gallagher,

The answer surely must be 'no'.
The risk to life would be minimal unless someone is using it as a sleeping accomodation.
It is not attached to the house so I can see only a minimal risk for fire spread directly however a couple of metres can be crossed easily by flames and smoke.
You could check with the local building control to see if they have any useful input.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes
Rex
