I'm getting fed up with buying the multipacks of heatshrink from wholesalers and throwing most of it away as being either too big or too small....

What's the best shrunk dia size to buy in for 10,16 & 25mm cables? (one conductor).

Buy heat shrink tubing in rolls for the sizes you need, works out cheaper in the end for what you want.

For single conductors 10-25mm and if using 1:2 heatshrink you could get away with 5mm shrunk diameter but it will be a bit tight for the 25mm and you might need to go up to 6.5mm.
Alternatively go for 4mm shrunk diameter on 3:1 heatshrink and cover all options.

Cheers Richard, any tips of where best to buy it from? The RS website has it all, but not necessarily at decent prices!!

RS is always expensive but they do tend to have what you need, which is annoying!
Neweys prices are not too bad (if they have them in stock). As it should last indefinitely I tend to buy a bulk lot from Finishadapt Heat Shrink Tubing and Sleeving - UK Supplier, but they have a minimum order of ÂŁ50! but you can buy piecemeal and the price does build up with different colours and sizes and it is only the price of buying 10 multipacks. Depends on how much you use.

I've looked at that site before, and they seem to have an excellent range but I have never managed to find any prices? Did you contact them to get prices? or have I overlooked a link on their website?

Cheers

So what's the best tool to use to use on the heat shrink? Cant seem to find a 'proper' tool to use.:goofy:

I've got a Dewalt hot air gun - 2kW variable - cost me about ÂŁ30 and it's brilliant for everything from heatshrink to softening pvc conduit for bending etc. Came with various attachments and tools.

@jamesbrown
I emailed for Finishadapts price list and they sent it over, I only have the 2009 price list but for the likely sizes we would use you were looking at about ÂŁ16-ÂŁ20 for a 100m spool.

Oh and I have one of the gas lighter powered ones in my tool box, dead handy, but really hot when you go to put it away!

I've got a Wella Pyro-pen but the last time i went to use it it's broken - think the switch/regulator is shafted. Sad Day. :(
