A customer has asked me to put in a spur for her heating as the gas board came for an inspection and there is no isolation.

The programmer is below the consumer unit and the boiler is in the loft.. I was wondering if i could put the spur just below the board at the before the programmer or is there any regs etc to say it needs to be beside boiler

thanks in advance as ive not got a lot of knowledge about heating

The gas boys normally put a switched spur beside the boiler for their convenience, much like you would put a switched spur for a dishwasher or washing machine etc. easy to gfet to and isolate if a problem

It would be a lot easier for me to install a spur beside the consumer unit as it is right beside the programmer , is there any regs etc preventing me from doing so

When an isolating device is installed remotely from the equipment it is meant to isolate, the device must be able to be locked in the OFF position. 537.2.1.5

I've heard of instances where british gas have refused to service boilers without an isolator alongside the boiler....I'd be inclined to stick a switched fused spur at the DB as a main isolator/fuse ,suitably labelled, and a local isolator alongside the boiler, breaking the flex to the boiler.Depending on the boiler wiring you could use a 3pole fan isolator or even a 4 pole rotary isolator alongside the boiler in the roof to ensure all feeds are isolated.
