what is the maximum height we can install a c/u now in a new build?? cheers guys

Part M requires that reasonable provision be made for people to gain access to a building and use its facilities. The approved document prescribes that switches, socket outlets and “other equipment” needs to be at appropriate heights, these are defined as between 0.45m and 1.2m from finished floor level.

We`ve had this discussion before, & whilst its open to interpretation (like so many of these things) the consensus is that the "appropriate height" for a CU would be somewhat different to that required for `functional` switchgear, such as light switches & sockets etc.

Well, that`s my consensus anyway

I understood the idea behind minimum and maximum heights was to make everything accessible to "people with restricted reach", eg old people, wheelchair users, short people etc and should followed in every new home in case a "person with restricted reach" moved in at some point in the future.
I appreciate a height between 450 and 1200 mm AFFL may be an inconvenient height to hide a consumer unit, but I don't expect an old person who can't crawl into the space under the stairs or a wheelchair user who can't reach above the front door would feel comfortable having to wait for assistance to reset a breaker due to a fault in their microwave while their freezer is merrily defrosting away in the background.

some of these regs are odd went to house that had extra wide door on the w/c for wheel chair
thats good........................
when all other doors are standard:confused:

My house is 4 years old, and as you said, the w/c has a wide door for a wheel chair to use, all other doors downstairs are of normal size. Then you go upstairs where the bathroom door is over size for wheel chair but all bedroom doors are normal.

Part M is specifically for disabled owners.

Its for disabled peoples use.

So, if they visit, they can use the facilities etc.

Thats how i understand it.

I understand its for disabled poeple to use, and I'm all for that, but why have an over sized door, which is for " Wheel chair" access, upstairs on a small landing where if you did happen to have a spare chair waiting for you, and you some how got up the stairs, you would still have to do a ten point turn just to get into the room.

Me thinks it daft!!
