Dizzy

First a big hello and thanyou to all I've been following this forum for a while now and must say I'm quite impressed with the no nonsense advice and help given and continue to learn some valuable tips and insight.

Im currently a stay at home dad, so in between the domestic bliss of carting the sprog off to nursery, driving the missus to work and coming home to the washing I've been contemplating and self studying part p,17th,OSG and GN3 with a view to becoming a self employed domestic electrician, while I still have a way to go in terms of fully grasping inspecting and testing I am confident that I can do it with a bit more practice.

Anyway the advice I need is what qualification do I need to achieve to be able to go out in the big wide world of domestic installations ideally via a registration scheme so I can sign off my own work.

I have a BTEC level 3 in electrical/electronic engineering that I completed some 20 years ago! This I know makes me to old (44) to be considered for any apprentice scheme and very unlikely to be considered for a sparkys mate position.(hence the self employed route)

I understand all the doom and gloom of the industry at the moment but I won't be put off by that as I have a genuine interest in the subject and from the limited practical experience of full domestic re-wires that I have I do know what I'm letting myself in for,
but would certainly appreciate any advice in terms of how to progress.

So if your still awake folks thanks again and good luck:)

your best bet is to contact napit with regard to joining. once you've passed your assessment, you can certify all domestic work and notify the notifiable jobs through them for £2 a job.

I just got qualified as an electrician and recieved my goldcard. I'm looking to sign off my domestic work. Do I have to do yet another assessment and pay loads of cash to get on with napit.

Sick of paying out left, right, and centre!
