i am trying to start a little timber board were i can practice am2 exam like connecting sockets up and lights and stuff but why doing this i would like to connect it to a mains voltage 240v on the other side of the wall but why i am messing with my sockets and stuff i dont want to trip out any of the downstairs appliances any one no any good ideas ?

Get a big a piece of chipboard or similar in their as possible and make a few circuits. If you haven't got any testing kit - start saving - much of the testing is dead anyway so no real need to worry about connecting to mains to start with.

edit btw i would edit out your email - not a good idea usually to post it on a public forum - people can always "private message" you if they want to.
