Hi can someone please help with an electrical problem?. The fuse has blown on the fridge-freezer and is cutting out the mains fuses.
*Obviously everything in the fridge and freezer is defrosting everywhere...

We woke up this morning to all the electrics being cut off at the main fuse because of an electrical problem with a fridge-freezer.

We have reset the mains fuse for the house and the circuits works. We have also replaced the 13 amp fuse on the fridge plug.
However, when we plug the fridge back in the light comes on for 3 odd seconds, and then it blows the fuse at the plug and the whole circuit on the house mains goes.

Can someone please help?.

Thanks

I'd say this is going to be an advanced job for a DIY'er, are you pretty good with electrical stuff? It should be fairly straight forward to find the fault if you've got some electrical knowledge and some testing equipment. what testers do you have? What is the make and model number of the fridge?

The most likely culprits in a domestic fridge are the compressor, the defrost element, evaporator and condenser fans (if it has any) and the trailing cable so I'd suggest unplugging it and visually inspecting all those closely for damage or smell of burning etc to start with.
