AM2 has been booked for end of July.

Has anyone already done the new exam as I only have the details from the checklist online and it is pretty vague, especially as I mainly do maintenance

REALLLYYYY NERVOUUSSS :(

Seriously dont panic.

The new AM2 is a piece of cake compared to the old one. All the sections in the installation part have detailed wiring diagrams and instructions including the heating system.

The fault finding is explained to you aswell.

Really?

Im just so nervous because Im a Hospital Maintenance Electrician so haven't really done anything thats in the new AM2.

Never even seen a central heating system, never used sy cable, never really installed a consumer unit etc

I don't think they are the glands, our tutor at college has taken the new AM2 and he got us to gland off the SY and it wasn't them, they look plastic?.

They're very similar to armoured glands but with a slit through the middle that the steel goes in then wrapped around and tightened. Very hard to explain, but theirs not much help over SY glands on the internet.

I was in the same boat as you and couldn't find it. It's not that difficult once you've done it a couple of times.

I'll see if I can find one for you.

Not the greatest picture I know, they are also known as XT glands if this is any help.

No, mines booked for the middle of August. Yourself?

Has anyone else recently done the new am2?

When did the new one come in? I did mine in may 2008.

All I'll say is if there is an area your not comfortable with practice it everyday between 2 points a week leading up to your exam. I had a problem with MI cable having never used it before. Also the bay is quite small must be 6' x 6' if even that.

New AM2 started last month. MI has been removed and so has the conduit. The new one has a central heating system, data and some other new things. But they are not giving out booklets like they used to.

Also you have to do an exam at the end.

Your in the same boat as me lol

There was a lad on this forum site who was doing his AM2 and he had a booklet on a lot of the things involved, so maybe you get that on the first day of the exam.

check this out - NET-WORKS.ORG.UK - AM2

Its the only information available at the moment, hopefully someone who has done it can shed some more light.
