Just done some decking and want to add some decking lights which are mains voltage. Obviously ill run the armoured cable from my house to the wiska box which will connect to the lights. Just wondering, do I connect directly into the fuseboard with the armoured cable, if so where do I connect the grey, blue, black wires??? Or do I take a supply from the ring main in the house? Really confused don't know how that bits done, I've done all the other bits though.

Cheers,

John:)

If you dont know where to connect the blue , grey, black wires it may be a good idea to have someone in that does know. Dont forget this is a notifiable job as well.
If you are just trying to get the cable to the correct location for a supply then the consumer unit would be good as then it wll probably then be on its own circuit, never a bad thing with external supplies.

morning matey...I don't want to sound mardi...but If you really dont know where to stick the wires in the consumer unit then I suggest you get an electrician to do the finnal connections for you.

as for the connection to the socket, no, its not correct to connect to the socket directly due to the rating of the circuit breaker for the ring circuit and it being over rated for the lighting circuit you have put in.

Planning on running T&E 2.5mm to JB from fused spur, with switch line, and connect the 2.5mm 3 core armoured to the JB, which will feed the about 400w off decking lights. Does that sound ok? cheers.

Usually you wouldn't need 2.5mm T&E for lighting, 1.0mm is enough, For outdoors I always try to use Arctic flex Cable.. Comes in 1.5mm, Its ideal for this horrible freezing weather months.

As its outdoors it has to be RCD protected, so if coming off your house ring be sure that circuit is RCD protected. Always best to run own circuit though if you can get back to the board..
