Help!!!! Electrician Stats

Hello,

I am doing a project on the UK electrician training market and was hoping that some of you pros could help me. I am looking for the best place to find statistics about the electrician industry in the UK. I have tried the Office of National Statistics but unfortunately their data is old or incomplete.

Basically, I am trying to find out:

1. How many qualified electricians are there in the UK
2. How many people take electrician training every year


3. Who are the people taking this training (age, stage in life):

• Students
• Further Education Colleges
• Private Providers

4. Who are the major training providers
5. How many people become electricians through career changing
6. Is there an accredited electrician organisation?

I have searched the internet but can't find very much useful information or hard data. Is this something the government can provide?

I would really appreciate anyone's help, either with data or pointing me in the right direction.

Regarding how many "qualified" electricians there are in the UK the Joint Industry Board may be able to give you an idea:
Contact JIB
Failing that you could try the competent persons schemes: Elecsa, Napit, ECA, BSI and NICEIC, add all the members together and that should give you a rough idea at least as to how many electrical companies there are.

A company called JTL deal with apprentice training:
JTL training - electrical, plumbing and engineering Advanced Apprenticeships.

As for adult training you could try the department for Education:
Contact us - The Department but bear in mind it is a government department so they'll probably be about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

• Further Education Colleges

4. Who are the major training providers i would say the colleges are the main training providers especially for the students and for say the updates on the regs there are ptp`s
5. How many people become electricians through career changing
6. Is there an accredited electrician organisation?

• Further Education Colleges all ages at the moment but with the planned changes to the courses it could be limited to 16-19 year oldsg
• Private Providers mainly post 19`s

4. Who are the major training providers colleges
5. How many people become electricians through career changing now thats a bit tricky as there are a lot of these "Make me an electrician in two weeks and they will probably consider themselves electricians
