I was putting up a projector on the ceiling, in a stud, things were going good, until.... Sparks came out of my screw. Followed by smoke. The breaker didn't trip when this happened. I opened the ceiling, and there was a wire between the drywall and what I thought was a good stud. Anyway, my screw did not go through the wire. I taped it thinking no damage had been done. So yesterday I notice there are no lights on in our ets unit upstairs ( heater ). My question is, can I just got that wire that I screwed into, and put a cap on it? Im just hoping the heater isn't fried. Please help.

I doubt that your heater and lights are on the same circuit as an heater will normally trip a lighting circuit, but as I don't know your heater load it is hard to tell.

As for the cable, when you say opened the ceiling what do you mean, you pull a section down or was that an access?

You can now get what are called "Maintenance Free" connectors such as these, and they can repair the cable and be pushed back into the ceiling

I have to take it from your post you are not electrical, I would honestly advise that you may get someone in to check over the damage, and then test the circuit to see if any damage was caused to other parts of the cable.

exactly as above. there could be damage where you can't see it. a sparks will be able to test the circuits and it shouldn't take too long to ensure it's safe.
